Fear Not

Fear Not!

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 40:10
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.
” 2 Timothy 1:7

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18

Have you ever heard the saying, “Paranoia will destroy you?” Extreme fear can turn into paranoia and make us do things we would not normally do. When we cannot find the answers to our problems, or things seem out of control, our thoughts can go into worry mode. When we take matters into our own hands the end result can bring more damage than we originally feared. The Bible tells us not to ‘fear not’, but unless we surrender our ways to His ways, we carry the burden of solving the problem ourselves.

FEAR, also described as False Evidence About Reality, can be very powerful. Abraham and Sarah were given a promise by God to have a baby. When it was taking longer than they thought was reasonable, they gave into the fear that they were getting too old to conceive. To gain control of the situation, they took matters into their own hands. The outcome of their actions caused them and their family great pain.

They did not trust in the promise given to them by God and they did not surrender to His way. God said to Abraham, “I will change the name of Sarai, your wife, to Sarah. I will bless her and give her a son, and you will be the father. She will be the mother of many nations. Kings of nations will come from her.” Genesis 17: 15-16.

What do you do when you are afraid? Do you run from the Father, or do you wait on Him? He tells us to cast our cares on Him and He will carry us through. This Advent season, give your fears to God and experience faith over fear.

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you that we can have faith over fear in you. We can stand on your promises and live a worry-free life. Today, I surrender my fears in life to you for your direction, peace, mercy, and grace. I trust You will carry me through my fear. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
