REVELATION… reclaim. recycle. renew. reuse. recreate. renovate
I’ve been studying the Bible book of Revelation recently as I prepare for our summer speaking series entitled: REVELATION -reclaim. recycle. renew. reuse. recreate. renovate.
Revelation is one of those books/letters that students and older folks alike have a real interest in. The Bible book/letter of Revelation has been the most requested speaking topic during my time in ministry. It has also been a topic that I've avoided like the plague. Why... because no one in his/her right mind would tackle this letter/book without fear and trembling. After all Jesus give a unique and interesting message for those who would tackle the topic this book. It's a very interesting warning--in fact, it seems to me to hold a worst fate for those who trample its message then it does for people who decide not to take Jesus up on his offer to reclaim. recycle. renew. reuse. recreate and renovate their lives. Here's the warning...
"I give fair warning to all who hear the words of the prophecy of this book: If you add to the words of this prophecy, God will add to your life the disasters written in this book; if you subtract from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will subtract your part from the Tree of Life and the Holy City that are written in this book." Revelation 22:18-19 (MSG)
…with that being said, Revelation is scary not because what's in the book but, because I don't want to mess up. I love a challenge as well as anyone but, I'm not really into disasters for disaster's sake. And I'd like to have my portion of the Tree of Life (whatever it is...it sound good).
Here's what I know about the book/letter of Revelation--just to name a few things...
1. it's totally misunderstood…,
2. it’s not a God scare tactic…,
3. it's not about destruction…,
4. it's not about pre...post or mid-tribulation rapture…,
5. it's hope personified…,
6. it puts on display good's ultimate triumphs over evil…,
7. it's about Jesus Christ and not some Antichrist …,
8. it's about God's plan from the beginning of time to reclaim, recycle, renew, reuse, recreate, and renovate the creation he adores…,
9. it’s not just about us…,
10. it’s good (or should I say God) news
I've also discovered that God is the original environmentalist.
It was God that told Adam & Eve the original humans to take care of the earth and its creatures he said to Adam and Eve...
"God spoke: "Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, And, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth." God created human beings; he created them godlike, Reflecting God's nature. He created them male and female. God blessed them: Prosper! Reproduce! Fill the Earth! Take charge! Re responsible for the fish in the sea and the birds in the air, for every living thing that moves on the face of the earth." Genesis 1:26-29 (MSG)
Revelation is the ultimate proof that God's plan is to make all things new and to return his creation (of which you and are His crowning achievement) back to its original splendor and glory!
The world and some well-meaning prophecy-hounds (a nice term for them) have tricked us into thinking that John's end time letter is bad news. I couldn't disagree more--it seems to me that Revelation is God's signal that good news in on the horizon. I don't know if you've had any good news this week--if not here's some One day all of creation will be reclaimed, recycled, renewed, reused, re-created, and renovated by God and then the vision of Revelation will come to pass...
"I saw Heaven and earth new-created. Gone the first Heaven, gone the first earth, gone the sea. I saw Holy Jerusalem, new created, descending resplendent out of Heaven, as ready for God as a bride for her husband. I heard a voice thunder from the Throne: "Look! Look! God has moved into the neighborhood, making his home with men and women! They're his people, he's, their God. He'll wipe every tear from their eyes. Death is gone for good—tears gone, crying gone, pain gone—all the first order of things gone." Revelation 21:1-4 (MSG)
Revelation--finally some GOD NEWS for a change... -Pastor James
