We are excited to announce the hire of Robyn Buchheit as our new Children's and Learning Center Ministry Director. She will serve on Pastor Kerry's team with a clear focus of helping kids learn about Jesus and grow in their relationships with Him. She brings passion and experience to the Salem Fields Church community that will help us in fulfilling our vision and mission of reaching people for Jesus and helping them to become change agents in the world for Christ.

Robyn has called many states home over the years but has spent most of her life living in Woodbridge, Virginia. She was raised in a Christian household by two loving and faithful parents alongside her older brother, Austin. Having grown up in the church, Robyn has always known about God and Jesus and his sacrifice for us on the Cross but experienced his true saving grace and transforming love for the first time at 15 years old while attending youth camp at James Madison University. The Lord used the story of “The Woman at the Well” in John 4 to lift Robyn out of a life of seeking her identity and worth in everything but Jesus and brought her into his true love and mercy with a perfect identity as a child of God.  After that day, Robyn began an earnest pursuit of the Lord and spent many years growing in faith through discipleship and service in leading Sunday School classes for the Kids Ministry at her church.Robyn first felt the Lord calling her to a life of ministry in 2017 during her sophomore year at Brigham Young University where she was studying to become a Veterinarian and serving with the kids/student ministry at a church plant in Orem, Utah. After realizing that she had not been seeking the Lord’s direction in her career choices and academic pursuits, Robyn laid down her pursuits at the feet of Jesus and felt the Lord calling her to leave Utah and the pursuit of Veterinary Medicine and move back home to Virginia to pursue a life of service in ministry. That summer, the Lord confirmed her call to ministry while she was working on staff at Skycroft Conference Center as a student camp counselor and summer missionary.

She became the Kids Ministry Intern at First Baptist Church of Woodbridge in November of 2017 and has been faithfully serving the Lord on the church staff there ever since. During her years on staff at FBCW she has also earned an associate degree from Northern Virginia Community College (2019) and is currently in the process of completing her bachelor’s degree. She transitioned into the role of full time Next Generation Ministry Associate in 2021 where she has helped maintain and oversee their Kids Ministry which enlists 120 volunteers to serve the 250+ birth-6th grade kids who attend classes on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings; as well as the 40 volunteers who serve the 90+ 7th-12 grade students who attend classes on Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, and Wednesday evenings in Student Ministry. On top of weekly church activities, Robyn has also helped organize and host several large ministry events at FBCW, including VBS, WinShape Camps for Communities, Kids summer camp, Student summer camp, Backyard Kids Clubs, Student Collective Conference, Family Retreat, and many other fall and spring community outreach events. Robyn has also been blessed the last few years to help re-start and serve alongside some friends in leadership over the student ministry worship team, helping to train and equip students to use their unique gifts and talents to lead their peers in worship each week.

Robyn has a heart for ministering to families of all shapes and sizes and helping to equip and disciple parents as they are discipling their children at home. Her vision for Children’s Ministry is to focus on building relationships with children, students, parents, volunteers, and staff because she knows that we are created in the image of a relational God, and it is through relationship that we build the trust and security needed to share the love and hope of Jesus with the lost. Her ministry objectives are: to seek the Lord daily through prayer and studying of God’s Word; to help children build trusting relationships with others that will lead them to trust in Jesus; to provide foundational teaching and a well-rounded spiritual education that includes worship, prayer, and discipleship; to partner with parents and encourage and equip them in their role as the primary disciplers of their children; and to reach kids all across the community with the gospel.
Robyn’s love language is quality time, and she also loves a good hug. She enjoys playing and collecting board games, eating Korean food, reading a good book, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. She has a 7-year-old puppy named Sadie Belle who is her best friend and constant companion. She has a heart for serving individuals and families in the special needs community, stemming from the Lord blessing her with many family members and friends within that community. She rowed Crew and performed in a competitive Show Choir all 4 years of high school. Robyn is not a big professional sports fan; however she loves attending the games & performances of kids/students in her ministry to cheer them on (even when she has no idea what is happening on the field). Most of all, Robyn loves walking alongside and celebrating children as they learn about Jesus, put their faith and trust in Him, and grow to be more and more like Him every day.
