“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the day of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem.” Matthew 2:1(ESV)
One of the most challenging parts of the Christmas season is often the travel. Some families travel the better part of the day getting to a celebration and upon arriving ask themselves the question, was it worth it? The wise men traveling from Persia had a very long journey ahead of them as they decided to follow the mysterious star in the sky foretold by the prophet Daniel. There would have probably been an entire caravan of travelers to make such a trek. It would have taken them well over a month to make it to Jerusalem. What faith and curiosity must have possessed them that they would leave the comfort of their homes to search for what was essentially a legend. Imagine their potential despair when reaching Jerusalem and paying respects to the ruler Herod, finding out that the Jews themselves were not even looking for this King. And yet, the star remained and they pressed forward till they came to Bethlehem and met the King of Kings. The trip was expensive and taxing, although what they found at the end of it was seemingly worth everything and so much more.
Points to Ponder:
Christmas travel may seem somewhat overwhelming and at the end not worth it. Many people feel the same way about their spiritual journeys as well. The wise men could not ignore the pull of the King and pressed on. Are you willing to press through the challenges of this Christmas season to find the King of Kings?
Lord, the journey is not easy, and I am easily sidetracked. Lord help me to keep moving forward in my journey no matter the obstacles, that I might discover who You are and who I was made to be. Lord I trust You to guide my steps as I am willing to follow you. Lord please keep me safe along the way…In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
