“Lord, he said, now I can die content! For I have seen Him as you promised me I would. I have seen the Savior You have given to the world. He is the Light that will shine upon the nations…” Luke 29-32(TLB)
It was another ordinary day in the life of an ordinary, elderly, devout man. Simeon (Luke 2:25) was holding fast to a promise God had given him. The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would not die until he saw God’s anointed King, the Savior of the world. He was now growing old and for years he had been expecting and anticipating that promise to be fulfilled. He had stubbornly refused to wavier in his faith or stop seeking. Doubt could have easily filled his mind, but he didn’t allow it. This day was like any other day. The Spirit prompted him to go, and he went to the Temple to worship. On what seemed to be just another ordinary day, the extraordinary happened. His path converged with Mary and Joseph who brought their new baby Son to that same Temple to be dedicated to the Lord. Simeon, because of his steadfast devotion, instantly recognized the fulfillment of his promise, the Christ-child! He cradled the Baby in his arms and praised God, saying, “Lord, now I can die content! For I have seen Him as you promised, the Savior You have given to the world.…”
Points to Ponder:
Do you get tired of waiting? When God promises, He keeps His Word. He has a promise for you. Live in anticipation and expectation like Simeon did, never giving up on pursuing Jesus..
Heavenly Father, please fill my life with a sense of Your presence and a child-like wonder and anticipation to see Your promise fulfilled so that when I die, I will die content! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
