“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name JESUS. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” Luke 1:31-33 (ESV)

In today’s Scripture, beautiful news is revealed to Mary concerning her baby boy, Jesus. The angel Gabriel delivered what is considered to be the greatest message of all time, YET that was not all…as we are able to witness even greater details throughout the New Testament, especially the Gospels. Moreover, the lyrics to a familiar song titled “Mary, Did You Know” were originally penned for a Christmas play by Mark Lowry, and it was almost 12 years later that Buddy Greene was able to compose music for the lyrics of the song below: Mary, did you know that your baby boy would one day walk on water? Mary, did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters? Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new? And this child that you delivered will soon deliver you Mary, did you know that your baby boy would give sight to a blind man? Mary, did you know that your baby boy would calm the storm with his hand? Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod? And when you kiss your little baby you kiss the face of God? Oh, Mary, did you know? Mary, did you know? The blind will see? The deaf will hear? The dead will live again? The lame will leap? The dumb will speak the praises of the Lamb? Mary, did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation? Mary, did you know that your baby boy will one day rule the nations? Did you know that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb? And this sleeping child you're holding Is the great I Am?

Points to Ponder:

As you gather together with family this Christmas, appreciate the positive fruits you now bear that came from the seeds of your ancestors. Pray for Jesus to prune the branches that aren’t bearing anything good. Begin to plant seeds of faith and love into the generations that will follow, knowing that one day they will reap what you sow. And lastly, celebrate together and praise God that we are all now a part of Jesus’s family tree as adopted sons and daughters in Christ.

Let’s Pray:

God, words cannot express the gratitude I possess when you decided to send Your Precious Son, JESUS, the Lamb of God. As I scurry around this season, may I take a moment or two or three to listen intently to the words of every Christmas song that mentions Your Holy & Precious Name. Help me worship and adore the perfect gift to us-JESUS, for You are the most important reason for this glorious season… In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
