“At that very moment, an elderly woman named Anna stepped forward. Anna was a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She had been married for seven years before her husband died and a widow to her current age of 84 years. She was deeply devoted to the Lord, constantly in the Temple, fasting and praying.” Luke 2:36-37(The Voice)
For a majority of us, this morning was like most mornings. We woke up, and we started our normal routine of a day. For some, the day may have challenges because you’re facing a difficult circumstance, and it just doesn’t seem like God is anywhere around you. One thing I know is true - God specializes in being around in the midst of our difficult times. And if we are continually seeking after God, He will eventually show Himself even through the most challenging situations.
Anna was an eighty-four year old widow who faced some difficult times, yet never gave up on seeking after God. After only seven short years of marriage, she found herself a widow and would never marry again. Yet despite the grief and sorrow that she felt from that loss, she continued to devote herself to worshiping God. Had she decided to turn away from God after the loss of her husband, she might have missed out on her purpose. Her story is a story of persevering through suffering which lead her to be used by God as a prophetess. Tomorrow we will read just how God used her to prophesy over the Perfect Gift.
Points to Ponder:
Her story reminds us that despite the difficult times we face, we should continue to seek God with the promise that He will lead us to fulfill His purpose for our life, so be encouraged to diligently seek God.
Lord, thank You for Your love today, help me to have the strength to seek You first in all situations and to have the vision to seek how You show up each time in unexpected ways. I pray for all this…In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
