“She was deeply devoted to the Lord, constantly in the Temple, fasting and praying. When she approached Mary, Joseph, and Jesus, she began speaking out thanks to God, and she continued spreading the word about Jesus to all those who shared her hope for the rescue of Jerusalem.” Luke 2:37-38(The Voice)
In many homes all across the country, children spend an entire year looking forward to the gifts they hope to receive at Christmas. On Christmas morning, excitement fills the air as my children race downstairs to see all the gifts that were carefully placed around the tree for them. Oftentimes, I think many of us look forward to receiving gifts and the joy it brings. As a parent, I love to see the joy in the eyes of my children as they unwrap each one. I have to wonder about the excitement of God our Father as He watches us when we finally unwrap the Christmas present He has given to each of us.
Like a child on Christmas morning, Anna approached Mary and Joseph in the Temple when she saw them holding Jesus in their arms. As she gazed in amazement, she began to explain to all that would listen that this baby was God’s Gift of redemption to the world.
Points to Ponder:
Anna spent her life seeking the Kingdom of God with pure joy and excitement in her heart. I’m sure she hoped that one day her faith would be made sight. Do you believe Anna knew that she would end up seeing the Kingdom of God on this side of Heaven?
Lord, I desire to spend the holiday season in childlike excitement, remembering that Your gift of salvation was born on Christmas day. I pray that I will continue to seek first Your Kingdom, just as Anna did with the hope of the second coming of Your Son Jesus. In Jesus’ Name, I pray Amen.
