Lent Day 40
“The Lord will give strength to His people.
The Lord will bless His people with peace.”
Psalm 29:11
This will age me, but do you remember the song lyric “What the world needs now is love, sweet love”? Of course, our world still needs love, and a lot of it. However, what our world desperately needs right now is peace, peace in Ukraine, peace in the Middle East, peace in our political institutions and in our homes. The antithesis of peace is conflict, uncertainty, and chaos. Our world can definitely be described as fraught with conflict, uncertainty, and chaos.
Our world has gone through many conflicts and numerous chaotic times. Starting back in the Old Testament, the people of God were forced to wander, they fought numerous battles, they were dispersed and enslaved. God’s people are not novices when it comes to conflict, uncertainty, and chaos. But through it all, God gave His people strength and peace in the midst.
God promises His people peace and strength throughout His Word. God’s peace protects our heart and mind, keeping us strong and safe through some of life’s most difficult moments. As Philippians 4:7 assures us “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and you minds in Christ Jesus.”
Being at peace in the midst of chaos and uncertainty is our strength; a strength that knows that God is with us, and that God is for us. It is not just knowing this, but it is living it day in and day out, no matter what is happening in our crazy world.
Dear God, thank You that despite the craziness of our world, we can walk in Your peace and Your strength. I pray peace over our world, especially in the places of conflict and chaos. I pray Your strength over those who are walking through difficulties and uncertainties. Guard them with Your peace that transcends all understanding. In Jesus name, Amen.
