Lent Day 35
“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19
Paul is speaking to the Philippian Church thanking them for the much-needed assistance they provided to him. This verse is not prosperity thinking, it is not saying, if I give I will receive. It is a verse that shows gratitude to God who is faithful and who promises to supply every NEED we have! Life is not always easy and there is not always a rosy picture in life. But a life that has God as number ONE will be content wherever we may find ourselves.
I was a single mom, and I had very little. But from the day I committed my life to Him and followed His will for my life, He has provided. Life was (is) not always easy, but He has always been faithful to help through the difficult times.
It was not always easy being faithful. Often I was criticized by my family and others for giving my time, talents and resources to God. But God has been so very faithful; and provided for each need! God called me into full-time Christian ministry. He provided a way for me, to pack a 5 year old and all that we owned into a car and travel the miles from VA to CO, to attend Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs. There I met my wonderful husband who took me and my daughter as his own. C.M. is also a committed follower of God. Together we have given and never regret a moment of what we have given to God
Almost 50 years later, and God is still faithful as we walk with Him. Now that we are planning for retirement, I found myself saying to our financial adviser – “We have lived on less, and God has never failed to provide our NEEDS and I know without a doubt that He will provide in our remaining years!” The adviser just looked at me, I think he thought I was crazy, but I know I serve a faithful God.
I have no doubt about this. God may not provide how we would like, but HE provides every NEED. That is a promise from HIM and I hold on to it! Is life always a bundle of roses NO, but I do”know Who holds tomorrow, and Who holds my hand” in all things!
Dear Lord, thank You that Your promises are true, and You never fail us. Help me to be true and faithful in my relationship with you. Amen.
