Lent Day 17

“The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.” Psalm 37:23-24

“What if I stumble? And what if I fall” were lyrics I sang when I was a younger woman. Yet, as an older person, I am ruminating on the fact that it may have been better if I had memorized the above scripture. Do not get me wrong, I am a music lover. Music has been with me through pain, sorrow, anger, and joy. God uses music in my life. I am grateful for the songwriters and musicians. It is when my priorities are out of balance and the lyrics start replacing my time in God’s Word then an issue arises.

Did I spend unnecessary time worrying about falling? Yes, and I have stumbled over the years, minor and major. However, the Lord has always upheld me with His Hand.

This made me think of other lyrics:

Sometimes I am on the mountain
Holding on to Your Hand
And sometimes I am in the middle
Holding the best, I can

Sometimes I am in the valley
And I let go long ago
When my hand is weak and tired
Your hand still has a hold

Lord, thank you for always having a hold of me, even when my hand has let go.
