Lent Day 12
“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises.”
-2 Peter1:3-5 (NLT)
Would you buy a car without an owner’s manual? The manual tells us how to keep the car running smoothly, how to fix problems that arise, when and what type of maintenance is required. The Bible is the owner’s manual for Christian living. The Bible instructs us on how to run our life according to God’s plan, how to handle problems and difficulties, and how to maintain our relationship with God and with others.
The Bible is a book of instructions, encouragement, and promises.; everything we need for living a godly life. The above verses are a promise about God’s promises. These promises enable us to share in God’s divine nature and to escape the corruption that is in the world. However, these promises require a response from us. We must believe in and claim the promises that God has for us in His Word.
Returning to the car analogy, even though the manual attests to the car needing regular maintenance, we still need to take it to the mechanic. We have God’s promises in His Word; however, we must take them before Him in prayer in order for them to be enacted in our life.
Dear God, thank you for the precious and magnificent promises You have given us in Your Word. Guide me by Your Holy Spirit to those promises You have for me. Help me to respond to these promises in faith and confidence. In Jesus name, Amen.
