BEYOND OFFERING:
CONNECTION TOOLS: CONNECTING YOUR FAMILY TO GOD
ON THE CAR RIDE HOMEAsk your kids who the first missionary was. See if they can remember from today’s lesson! Then talk about why this person was the first missionary and what made this person special! MONDAYFind a children’s storybook Bible in your home or at your local library. Use it to walk through the life of Jesus. Read several of the stories out loud, and point out all the other stories about Jesus’ life. What tools did he use to share the Good News with the people he traveled to? How did the people respond to him throughout his life? TUESDAYTake a large piece of butcher paper, or combine several pieces of blank copy paper into a book. Then divide the paper into sections and create a type of comic book that tells the highlights of Jesus’ ministry on earth. For inspiration check out these great comic book bibles at your library or Christian book store: The Action Bible, The Lion Graphic Bible, The Manga Bible, Good and Evil, and The Comic Book Bible.WednesdayCut up some paper into small strips and on each one write a phrase that describes an event in Jesus’ ministry. For example, “Healing the man lowered through the ceiling” or “Feeding the 5,000.” Then divide into teams and play a game of charades. Try to have your team guess which story you are acting out. ThursdayBrainstorm a list of all the ways that Jesus showed God’s love to the people he lived around. Then choose one way and try to do the same thing for one of your neighbors. FRIDAYJesus left His home in heaven to come to earth and share the Good News with us. Sometimes God calls us to leave our homes and go somewhere to share His love too. Check out Global Outreach for opportunities for your family to share God’s love. Pray about whether God is calling your family to move beyond your comfort zone and commit to one of these. Tools for PreschoolersTell your child that missionaries are people who travel far from home to tell others about how much Jesus loves us. You could play a game pretending to travel to tell others about Jesus. Take a journey around the house and pretend to swim across seas (anything blue), climb over mountains (a stack of pillows), tiptoe past wild animals (stuffed animals) and then sing “Jesus Loves Me.” to their dolls or action figures.
