Mark 12:24 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many…
As we draw closer to celebrating Easter, I’m reminded of the words that Jesus shared during the last meal with His disciples. “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many…” (Mark 14:24) Here, in these final moments with His disciples, Jesus speaks about you and me. You see, we are part of the “many” that Jesus was talking about. We are the many that His blood poured out of His body on the cross for.
Later, after this meal, Jesus again prays a blessing over you and me. “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me.” (John 17:20-21) Jesus wants the blessing of God’s new covenant for all of us. God wants us to be blessed and unified with Him. This blessing wasn’t just for the people we read about in the Bible. Jesus makes it clear that this blessing and prayer was not just for those that walked with Him during His ministry before the cross, but for everyone who came after as well. God’s blessing that comes through Jesus is for you, your family, and your family still to come. Jesus poured out His prayers and blood for all generations - past, present, and future. May the God of Peace be on each of us this day.
